One fisherman assumed dead
On Thursday, the government officially welcomed three out of the four fishermen who had been lost at sea for over 22 days at the Mbaraki Wharf in Mombasa. This reception followed a successful search and rescue mission carried out by the Kenya Coast Guard Services in collaboration with a Chinese vessel on December 24.

“I want to confirm to Kenyans that we have officially received the three fishermen who were rescued after getting lost at sea for over 22 days. Search and rescue is still going for the missing one,”
“I know it has not been easy for 22 days, but finally we are here. We want to thank God that the three are here with us now,” he said.
“The operation has been successful because of the cooperation of the different security arm and arms of government. This is the way to go, and congratulations to the teams,”

Unfortunately, there is suspicion that one of the fishermen lost his life due to drowning.
The three fishermen, who endured a traumatic ordeal, were received by Kenya Red Cross officers in Mombasa. They received essential first aid and counseling before being transported to the hospital, where they will undergo further treatment and monitoring before being reunited with their families.
Cabinet Secretary Mvurya appealed to the media to allow the three individuals time to recover and come to terms with the harrowing experience before subjecting them to media interviews.
